Buddy Program
Riders helping Riders

Charity Riders come from all walks of life and face various challenges when choosing to participate in a ride.  Most event organizers will provide phone and email access to staff to help answer any questions you have about participation in the event.  The Buddy Program has been set up to offer further support.

Each Buddy is an experienced charity rider who has volunteered their time to help fellow riders make the most of a ride.  As you review their profiles you will see that each Buddy has specific experience with different aspects of a ride.  They are a source of an amazing amount of information that will enable you, not only to complete a charity cycling event, but to do so as easily and with as much fun as possible.

Since starting in earnest to train for CAR 6 in Jan 1999, I have logged almost 10,000 miles on my Trek. At that time I was 53 years old and hadn't much been on a bike since college. So if you're older and wondering if you can do the ride, the answer is: Yes!  How?  Train. Start early and stick with it. I will be glad to help you. (By the way the oldest rider on CAR 7 was 70!)

Lisa was a first time rider for CAR 7 and did most of her training on a hybrid before switching to a road bike.  She was one of the "plus-sized" women followed by a documentary crew in CAR 7.  If you are nervous about riding down steep hills or generally worried about whether you can do the Ride, Lisa is the person to talk to. And she's got a great British accent!

Trained on a mountain & hybrid for CAR 6 and a road bike on CAR 7, 8 and ALC1. If you are uncertain about which type to buy, I still own all three types and can discuss the pluses & minuses. As a psychologist, I've focused on the importance of mental training as well as physical training. If you feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or scared, welcome to the club ... you're not alone, we're all in this together.
